Yoga for Every Body
Join us for Iyengar yoga, where our focus lies in working with each individual and where the body is in that present moment. We will explore the poses (asanas) through alignment, the breath and mindfulness that will further develop one's strength, mobility and stability. Our classes are accessible to all bodies no matter the age or physical limitations one may have - there is infinite possibility for every body to move and feel better.
What Is Therapeutic Yoga?
Therapeutic yoga is a guided, evidence-informed practice that uses postures, breathing techniques, and movement to support physical rehabilitation and overall wellbeing. At Integra Physio, our yoga classes are led by Michelle Hagenson, a certified Iyengar yoga instructor with over two decades of experience and a Level 2 certification.
Michelle began her yoga journey in 1998 and has studied extensively throughout the Lower Mainland, as well as traveling to India on multiple occasions to study with the Iyengars. Her own experience navigating long-term pain has given her a deep, personal understanding of the body's capacity to heal through movement and patience. That perspective shapes every class she teaches.
Our yoga therapy sessions address a wide range of needs, including:
- Yoga for back pain and lower back pain, with targeted yoga poses for lower back pain relief
- Mobility limitations and stiffness from injury or surgery
- Stress-related tension and chronic pain
- Balance and coordination challenges
- Post-operative or post-injury recovery support

How Yoga Can Complement Physiotherapy
Yoga and physiotherapy share a common goal: restoring your body's natural capacity to move, heal, and thrive. At Integra Physio, our certified yoga instructors work collaboratively with our registered physiotherapists to create programs that support your recovery and long-term health.
Yoga therapy pairs naturally with services like Pilates, kinesiology and active rehabilitation, and myoactivation therapy. For those working through persistent discomfort, combining yoga with our chronic pain relief programs can provide a well-rounded path forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
No prior experience is needed. Our instructors welcome complete beginners and adapt every session to the participants in the room. The focus is always on therapeutic benefit, not performance.
Coverage depends on your provider and plan. Sessions delivered or supervised by a registered physiotherapist may qualify under physiotherapy benefits. We recommend checking with your insurer directly.
Yoga works because it addresses the body as a whole rather than isolating individual muscles or joints. It combines strength, flexibility, balance, and breathwork in a single practice, which means you're building resilience and releasing tension at the same time. For people managing pain or recovering from injury, that combination of mindful movement and controlled breathing makes yoga especially effective at calming the nervous system while rebuilding physical capacity.
For most people, two to three sessions per week is a good starting point, especially when yoga is being used as part of a rehabilitation or wellness program. That frequency gives your body enough stimulus to build flexibility and strength while allowing adequate recovery time between sessions. Your Integra Physio instructor can help you find the right rhythm based on your current health, fitness level, and goals.
Comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows a full range of motion is all you need. Fitted or form-fitting layers tend to work better than loose fabrics, which can shift during poses. Yoga is practiced in bare feet, so no footwear is required. If you're coming directly from work or another appointment, just bring a change of clothes and you're good to go.
